Hello from Bristol, UK. I`ve posted a couple of things already on this site. I would just like to recommend an online dissertation on the physiological problems of playing the piano. I am a pianist, 40 years old and suffering from focal dystonia for at least the last 20 years. It was this dissertation by Jonas Sen that first alerted me to what I had, around 2 years ago. As a result I got in touch with the wonderful Carola Grindea and have made tremendous progress thanks to her. I am probably about 80% cured, but bear in mind an impediment of this kind becomes so ingrained over such a long period. In my case it is the thumb, which wants to lift up off the key just before it has to play. Apparently this is a rare form of FD. When I met Prof Raoul Tubiana from Paris he said he had never encountered it in the thumb - usually it involves a curling of one of the other fingers, which is not a problem in my case. Anyway, the link for the dissertation is http://www.ismennt.is/not/sen/musmed.html I am writing my own dissertation on focal dystonia in pianists, so any info from anybody would be greatly appreciated. Best regards to all,
