Hi Di,
I thought I'd contact you on this website as I've had problems with your email address in the past. Hope this is okay. Do you remember I mentioned the Neuro Recovery Foundation which John Coleman started in Melbourne? The address of their website is: www.neurorecoveryfoundation.com.au Hope you're going okay.

Hi Margot,
Thanks so much for the message. Sorry its taken so long to reply. I've been redeployed in the office at work - sheltered workshop-type stuff which has kept me busy during the day, so I haven't visited this website for a while.
I have been seeing John Coleman for about a month and have been taking the aquas as well as having Bowen Therapy. I feel really good - I'm sure its good therapy, but so far, no improvement in my mouth. He is a lovely guy and says he will have me playing again in twelve months.
I have heard back from Dr. Frucht of the DMRF, to whom I sent a video tape and questionaire. He's fairly sure I have a jaw dystonia and says there is quite a high incidence of this progressing to tasks away from the instrument, like eating and talking. Bearing in mind your own experience, I am not game to try to play much as I still get the tremor away from the instrument. In fact I have worked out that unless my mouth is completely imobile (ie not talking, smiling or eating) that the tremor is there all the time, although you can't see it.
Thanks again, and all the very best of luck with the redeployment!
Di

Great to hear from you.
It's nice that you're trying the treatment with John Coleman. I wish you all the best with that.
I found it hard to tell whether homeopathics were working because they bring improvements very gradually over a long period of time. But the Bowen therapy I could feel improvements either immediately or after a few days.
It's quite a discovery that your tremor is actually there all the time unless your mouth is completely still. I think you are wise to keep playing to a minimum, as hard as it is.
Now that I've been unable to play for a good year, I am missing it more and more as time goes on. I feel like the reality of it is finally sinking in. I'm very sad, but still hoping that some treatment some day will be enough to get me back playing again.
I'm enjoying working at the Sound Library at the ABC at the moment although it's only temporary. I'm still working on more long-term options.
Best of luck, and keep in touch,
feel free to use my email if you prefer.
Margot
