Hi Are you from Brisbane, Aust? I'm sorry i don't know too much about artane. I know with other drugs used that it is often better to increase slowly. Sometimes, there are adjustment periods (where symptoms may increase) but it is better to stay on the dose for a little while to see if the symptoms settle down again. If you have any doubts, ask that you stay on the same dose for another week or two (or more-whatever you feel comfortable with). You can always increase later. I had a look at the DRD medication registry (some kids with DRD take artane in addition to Sinemet) to see what doses of artane people are on. There weren't any young kids listed, but the doses were between 2 mg (not sure how often) and 5mg twice a day. Hope others with artane experience might be able to help you more. Has your son had a trial of sinemet? This is a medication used to treat dystonia. A positive response, especially in children, can indicate a condition called dopa responsive dystonia (DRD). Take care, Vettey |
