I didn't have massage at all, though they kinda manipulated me. I guess stretching/range of motion type things. Some guided exercises, some really silly feeling strength training (because I used to really train), some gait training, transfer training, training on getting up... They used that machine that vibrates and sends electric shocks into the muscle to try to help control pain. That felt neat-wierd, but didn't do anything much at the highest level and nothing when it was removed. There was very light exercise (supported, recumbant elliptical) in 3-5 minute blocks (if you can call that a block). They worked on sitting and standing balance and trying to train my muscles to obey commands. (pressing, pulling, pointing, touching). They wanted me to learn to sit on a big ball, but that was crazy dangerous. A lot was trial and error with our main goals in mind. I actually felt a LOT better when I was in PT. I had a greater sense of physical well-being, just as if I were on the elliptical for hours like I used to do. I was able to eat better, sleep better... I tried aquatherapy, but was so excited to be back in the water it triggered huge storms each time and honestly was hard to manage (entry/exit with two transfers, showering and dressing). It was just too much. I think being able to get out and be with people was the biggest benefit of all. I'm not going to re-read this right now, so I appologize for typos and errors! :) |
