Edit
Dear all my friends,
I'm very thankful to God. Finally, I come back as a musician (soloist bass player). My Focal Dystonia in my both hands STILL exists until now, but now I'm 100% confident using my own modified (alternative) technique: Using pick as a replacement to my finger picking, and play just with the majority two of my remaining healthy fingers on left hand: index and middle finger.
I'm glad that with that modified technique, I'm still can play metal genre, the genre that I loved most. And although I'm not mastering the alternate picking technique to play fast, but I still can play fast leads, but of course mine are not 100% clean because I'm not master the alternate picking and I play just with the majority two of my remaining healthy fingers to fretting. But sometimes I can used my FD fingers on left hand (ring and pinky fingers) if my FD are not occured in some of my techniques such as fingering the chords, or other stuff.
Actually, I had found this technique from long ago, but at that time I still can't confidence with this technique, and I think: 'I won't play until my FD totally gone'.
But, I must accept reality and realize that this is the only option on my environment, to choose the modified technique. So with little adaptation, practice with this new technique, finally I'm confident to play music again.
I'm not say that FD is not curable, because we all know there are many musicians that get cured completely from FD.
I'm just say, for my self, I'm enjoy playing music with this new modified technique - that make me return as a musician, although I can't do some techniques anymore because of my finger limitations.
I'm still optimistic to see the future when there's a real / more light for this desease to cure.
Please do whatever you believe on tackling this problems: wheter you trying retraining, therapy, switching left-handed, switch to other instrument, or play with different technique like me (like other post that I read in this forum).
The most important thing for me that I'm happy now. No more anger or frustration because I'm still had FD.
And I'm not obsessed with technique anymore. Although I'm not play clean (because my finger limitations), but I don't think of that anymore. That because I realize that the essence of music are: We're all happy play music, and can entertain ourself and peoples. That's the most precious thing for me. I'M PLAYING MUSIC HONESTY WITH ALL OF MY HEART.
Thank you for all of you who struggling together, to sharing with each other. I hope all the best for all of you.
Best Respect and Best Regards,
M. Hendy A.
