Hi hkc,The brain is one of the most complex electro/chemo/mechanical "devices" known. The hardest thing for us to accept and understand is that programming the brain for motor commands is not a well defined process. Its amazing how much we take for granted even for common tasks like walking.
I switched to lighter actions many years ago when I first had the problem. While it made it somewhat easier to adapt it didn't really solve it. Like you say unlearning the bad patterns and relearning the new good ones is key.
I had some long rehearsals this weekend where I was more conscious of trying out the good movements. I definitely still relapse into the dystonic workarounds especially for fast passages, but I'm trying to use the good stuff as much as I can tempo permitting. Hopefully this gradual migration might help with the relearning ultimately.
thanks,
Noel
