You are right saying "we move towards a better understanding of FD and towards a more unified model of self help". I believe one day FD will be almost like what flu is now: 100 years ago it was killing people, now you need some time and you're through.Anyway I believe what Farias and Fabra (no "-s"..) are talking about is basically the same: the end result is that you, again, experience freedom of movement and work around it, re-associate it with the instrument. Basically you get rid of a bad habit (I know some poeople here would kill me for using this phrase...sorry, but that's what FD is to me..). The difference between the methods is just the path you take to get to playing without tension - then you practice and it gradually takes over FD.
As a student of Prof Fabra I can only say what Rob already said: the best person to lead you through FD with his method is Joaquín himself.
