Edit
I'm very pleased by the response I've gotten to my blog contest. But... I was thinking and wondering what kind of impact we could make next year during Dystonia Awareness Week. Blogging is free and it is a great way to communicate with others if you have trouble doing that in the traditional ways... like I do, and are social... like I am.

I actually had another blog for a few months where I made no mention of SD whatsoever. I had found a place where I could be "normal". It was named, "Laughing Always Helps," and I basically just told funny stories from my life. I had a lot of fun... but through a series of unfortunate events (my daughter ran away) I just up and deleted it one day.

I did not realize how much a part of my life the blog had become. I homeschooled my kids for nine years and this was the first year not. I was home alone every day for the first time ever. My whole social structure changed due to not homeschooling anymore and a church change. It's one thing to maintain relationships with SD and a whole nother thing to try to forge new ones. I was very lonely.

At the end of April, I decided to start another blog. Only, I decided that this time I was going to be open about SD, my faith, and my life. For too many years I've tried to compartmentalize my life... not wanting SD in it. My blog is not about SD, but it is part of it.

It is human nature to really only pay attention to those things in which you have a personal stake. I know of many disorders but do not know anyone who has them. They are fuzzy bits in the back of my brain that only surface here and there. It is a different matter entirely when I know someone though. Do you know what I mean?

What if more of us dealing with differing forms of dystonia were to start blogs? What if those blogs were not just about our disabilities, but about our lives? What if we could support one another and yet open ourselves up to the outside world at the same time? What if... what if next year we all banded together and took the blogoshpere by storm during Dystonia Awareness Week? What if?

If you think you might like to step into the world of blogs but are uncertain about how to do it. I can help you.
