Sorry to nitpick, but P=Pulgar, I=Indice and M=medio ;-) You have a very similar dystonia to mine - sounds like a dystonic M. I curls into the palm (overcompensates) when you try you try to pluck with M, yes? And in MA alternation, I is extending to try and compensate for the M that is not returning/extending properly. Up until November 2007 I could not play a thing, not a single arpeggio, unless I adopted Leisners P & I approach with M and A closed in the palm. Since then I worked on some ideas which have brought me to the stage where I am now playing intermediate repertoire at about three quarter speed. For the first time in 8 years I am experincing free movement coinciding with a dystonic pattern if I push things. Weird, but wow, I am getting there. Some questions for you; What happens if you alternate VERY slowly? Can you control either IM or MA alernation at say 50 beats perminute, one pluck per beat? I assume you are having problems mainly with free stroke, what about MA and IM rest stroke, same problem or easier? You say that MAMAMA gives you problems, and by that I assume you mean continuous alternation. How about MAM? Ie just three notes. You should find that the dystonia gets gradually more obvious the longer you continue the pattern, yes?
