Interesting line of thought this. Although I have never noticed any problem with my thumb contributing to my FD, I have certainly found that resting the thumb lightly on the bottom string when not in use (which is what flamenco players do) has really helped. The difference is quite noticeable when playing arpeggios or tremolo (which I can now do very slowly) on the top strings, as opposed to playing with a floating hand which is standard classical guitar technique. This achieves the same thing you describe on the piano - takes the thumb further away from the palm, isolating it and ensuring it doesn't interfere with the fingers. It also has the added advantage of giving your brain a sensory reference point which I think helps the brain locate the other fingers. I now practice with and without the thumb resting.
