guitarist –Great post. I'd like to bump this one to the top for all to read.
I just tried this with a crystal wine glass next to my computer. At first, I grabbed it with the intent of picking it up, and my wrist curled inward as it always does with heavy objects.
Then I reached for the glass with the intent to just touch it. Hand was relaxed. Then I lifted the glass. No wrist curl.
This will take some practice and discipline, but your method is fascinating nonetheless. Maybe I'll be brave enough to grab a drumstick with my left hand again. But this possibly explains why on some days when I grab the stick, my wrist goes into the inward bend, and on other days it doesn't. Probably because I haven't been consciously focusing on the intent.
