Yes, I have thought about the connection between stuttering and FD, or more precisely, SD (spasmodic dysphonia). A friend of mine suffers from SD, and is currently relying on Botox injection for speaking. There is a way of stutter relief through treating of the valsalva movement. It gave me some ideas, but nothing conclusive. In the oriental medicine and energy system, the vital energy rises from the base of the spine up to the head, and then down the front center line to the navel. However, often we have energy rising to the front side from the base up to the solar plexus, where it get constricted by the descending energy. This can cause blockage in the solar plexus region, which happens to be approximately where the diaphragm would be, etc. The vlasalva maneuver has to do with both stutting of the throat and tightening of the diaphragm - observed in stuttering. Since in a global sense, not being able to express, either by not able to speak with ease, such as stuttering or having SD, or not able to play the piano or other instrument, is the same experience. It is a blockage; not able to express. I have giving thoughts about this similarity and many other things. I can understand why we are reluctant to discuss this side of issues, since it tends to get personal. But perhaps we can go into it deeper without being personal... |
