Hi Jonny,
Good to hear of your progress and indeed that relief of being able to play with unrestricted fingers again.I did similar with my mandolin and tenor banjo playing on which I play Irish trad and which on these instruments the music is all melody with no chord work. The FD manifested itself originally in the plec control.Initially playing left handed was great, and like you, the joy of playing again was fantastic because my left hand could control the plec much better than my right hand and in fact I wondered for a while had I been one of those who were left handed originally but were forced to write right handed in school..But unfortunately( and of course I am not saying that this applies or will to anyone else) after a while an issue re-appeared in my right hand this time with control over holding the neck of the instrument.I wouldn't say that there is anything wrong as such with finding ways to get around FD even if it does look like "giving in to it" but for me I have found that there were deeper reasons behind it all and that these needed addressing. Also I did notice that there was a minute delay in the performance of my fingers when playing left handed as if the signal had to go through an extra stage???But best of luck with it
