Thanks Guy, another interesting mail. I can't open the video I'm afraid, but I think I get the idea. It's so long ago now I'm not sure I can remember what Candia said about the 'paper lifting'. I'm guessing both (muscle working and avoidance of usual movements). Probably, though, the main thing was to build up ways of doing things which don't reproduce the problem. I found pretty quickly, on the piano at least, that I only had to play with the 'paper lifting' technique for a short while, I could then revert to playing in a more normal way. But I've continued with the piano and am finding that as what I'm playing gets more difficult I come across new patterns that bring the dystonia back. Initially I then revert to the 'paper lifting' technique until a passage becomes familiar then the dystonic feelings tend to go away and I can play it more normally. By the way, I'd love to hear more about the exercises you're doing - especially more details? Cheers, Clive |
