I was diagnosed with focal dystonia by the Miller Institute for the Performing Arts NYC in 1982. My thumb was the dystonic finger with the compensating index finger extending and curling away from my palm. IMIM would trigger the feeling, computer keyboard, even using the mouse would cause problems. I also could not write with a pen or pencil without my hand locking up. I tried Botox and splints and neither worked. The threshold ideas presented here helped the most along with gluing small pieces of sandpaper to my flat picks. It seemed my improvement had reached a standstill until I started using the mirror.
