Edit
I noticed the length of retraining sessions make huge differences in how my body and mind reacts afterwards and in general too. If I overpractice, push or worry too much things get worse right away. If I miss practicing for a few days FD may even block me when typing on the keyboard and even writing.

For me usually the "20 minutes work - 20+ minutes rest" routine works but if my hand gets tense I adjust myself; just relax or maybe put my bass down. So I always check while practicing to make sure I stop when my mind or body sais to stop instead of my ego. This way I can keep things in balance. I also try not to expect anything and be ready to face a new challenge every day - this kind of "take it easy" or sort of careless mentality really helps. I have to add however that I found myself an alternative technique to play which makes it easier to approach FD this way.

Resting is the time for the brain to process the info thus it is an extremely important part of (re-)learning.
To sum up I guess if you just pay attention and take rests often you benefit more.
