Do you mean a constant tightness that never lets up or intermittent spasms when engaging in activities other than playing your instrument. I get spasms, though less severe than when drumming, when I eat, shave, brush my teeth,write, etc. My neurologist mentioned that a condition called Wilsons Disease can closely mimic focal dystonia. Also, an abnormaly high level of copper can cause similar spasms. Both conditions are easily treated. Might be worth checking into.
