That's interesting but I played extremely fast legato for many years and didn't get any symptoms. It was when I tried to increase my accuracy and eliminate mistakes that the problems arose (I noticed a small defect in the timing of my little finger). In fact the nail in the coffin seemed to be when I slowed everything down and tried to use a more classic hand position (I slanted the hand quite a bit before). I think in my case it was maybe the fact that there were two slightly different maps that I built and then the brain couldn't decide which movement pattern I required so it now gets confused. A subtle difference maybe but this is a very subtle condition as I'm sure you have found out
I'm convinced there is also a hypnotic element to this. My little finger has been conditioned to grab a string hard and now it can't do anything else.
"LESS CONSCIOUS effort is required, and you are aiming for NO control"
Maybe a way of achieving this would be to do complex maths or read a book whilst doing the movement patterns so that the concious self has less chance to intervene?
After two failed attempts, followed by major depression I'm building myself up mentally for another push at this and I just want to get my head right before I start. Someone who had great success with Prof Fabra has offered to help me and I am just about to book a series of consultations with Joaquin in the summer.
Glad to see that you are getting positive results with your strategy. Take care. J.
