Hi guys, in my personal recovery process (I fully recovered just in case you didn't read my post on it) I did find what triggered what and I was even able to distinguish and feel each abnormal movement for each specific finger combination but ultimately, trying to avoid the triggers wasn't part of my recovery but all the contrary. I followed Prof. Joaquín Fabra's teachings for my recovery and one of the biggest foundations of those teachings is NEVER TRY TO CONTROL the dystonic movements. EDIT: I base my words in the recovery process I've followed, please don't take it as if I want to say it's the ONLY truth. That's what I did and what I think. With absolutely all due respect to Brian, I think that what he says might work a bit but it's based on consciously controlling the movements so, even if that works for you, I think you'll always need to be in conscious control when you are playing. We actually, and even people that don't suffer this condition, should aim to play as naturally as we naturally speak, if you see the great musicians out there, their instrument is a part of their own body and the ultimate goal is the music expression not the performance of the instrument it self. So, if you focus on controlling, you'll never be really free. That's what I feel.
As Brian says, it's dangerous trying to communicate these things by writing. I wish a multi-video or even a multi-audio conference application exists so we could have a talking all together!!! I know that what I am saying is not useful to start a treatment, I just want to let you know here that I think you shouldn't base your recovery on CONTROLLING but in LETTING GO. Although I think there's no other real way than talking or at least an interaction to be able to understand what to do, I'll try to write a guide or do a video based on my recovery which was based, as I said, on Prof. Joaquín Fabra's teachings.
