Edit
first of all, many congratulations on your recovery! and even more so...congratulations on your selflessness in planning to share how you did it without monetary compensation. i remember 4 years ago...all i had for options were paying some guy $200 an hour over 10 sessions or flying to spain all for mysterious cures that were far from guarantee. there was one selfless guy here then who did unravel some of the mystery for me (hkc58) who really set me on a great path to recovery. it's really great that there are now several or more people sharing their recovery stories with the sole purpose of helping those desperate for help with this condition.

now, to the reason i'm writing. i think it's wrong at this juncture to assume there is one "proper" way out of this. you say NERVER TRY TO CONTROL DYSTONIC MOVEMENTS. well...i'm not saying you or anyone else is wrong in your method because it works for you. but for me it's been the opposite. when i let the dystonic movements have their way, the problem gets worse. by not allowing the dystonic movements by often times reinforcing the opposite movement, i've had great success. and my case was pretty bad to where my index in my picking hand was completely nonfunctional for guitar playing and many other tasks. now i'm very close to playing "freely" as you put it in your videos. just the fact that i can now type these long winded responses is a miracle!

i've seen quite a few plans of attack on this board and elsewhere as of late and i think that's a very good thing. and i think the common thread that underlies all of it is LEARNING TO USE YOUR INTENDED MUSCLES WITHOUT UNNECESSARY TENSIONS IN THE INTENDED OR UNINTENDED ONES. some people learn this your way, by "just letting go". others learn it by retraining while not allowing the dystonic movements. others try a little of both. if there was one way out of this, then everyone would benefit from that one way. unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work like that.

that's why it's great to have a place like this where people are sharing the different ways they have recovered; thus enabling sufferers from this condition the ability to choose what works best for them.
