I joined this BB as I didn't know where else to go for advise with my little finger. I have posted on the General Dystonia BB and not come up with answers. I don't play a musical instrument, but this is my story:
I have had Cervical Dystonia [also called spasmodic torticollis] for over 7 years. Coincidentally with this, my right pinky became very inflamed and painful at the end joint. I never thought of it being connected to C.D. so never suggested this to my G.P. when I showed him. He said it was osteo arthritis, and to take glucosamine. The inflamation went, but over time, the finger began bending at the joint.I couldn't straighten it unless I forced it. About a year ago, the second joint began bending too. And I can no longer force any of it straight. I just saw a very experienced orthopedic hand specialist. "Goodness" he said, "I've never ever seen anything quite like that". He said he would refer me on to a finger surgeon specialist, but first to have it X rayed. The radiologist also said "I've never seen a finger quite like that." She was very interested in my neck dystonia as I sat awkwardly to position my hand. On the x-ray, the bones appeared healthy except the finger was in a bent position.
What I don't want to do is have surgery, if it is dystonia.
So please, does anyone with musicians dystonia have a single dystonic finger that has slowly become permanently bent over time?
