Hi there all, I was diagnosed with focal dystonia in my right hand a couple of months ago. It affects the index finger of my right hand, meaning it wants to claw inwards when I ask it to grasp anything or perfom an action. It initially affected my guitar playing and typing only, and was the "simple" form, but moved on to be "dystonic" form quite quickly. I also suffer from anxiety and depression and a combination of life events and the shock of this diagnosis meant my symptoms got back enough for me to go onto a course of Citalopram, 5 weeks ago. The thing is, since taking the tablets, I am sure my dystonic hand is getting progressively worse. Whereas it was only cramping when I tried to perform an action with it, now it is cramping up all the time, and the hand has become virtually useless, much like a claw. This may be a coincidence, but I noticed it when upping the dose from 10mg to 20mg. I am now on 30mg, and the hand is worse again. Just wondering if anyone else has had experience with SSRI anti-depressants, or could offer any insight into this? Obviously it is a rock and a hard place, this medication needs to be built up over 4-8 weeks to work, and coming off of it takes just as long to do is safely. Do I come off and risk the severe depression and anxiety that got me here, or plough on? I am based in the UK and getting an appt with a neuro is about as easy as solving world peace. I will try, because obviously I need some advice, but was wondering if you guys had any thoughts as well. Thanks for your support, Gareth |
