Edit
Hi Gareth,

Obviously I'm no expert on psychotropic drugs but I did take Fluoxetine for a short while during the first year of my FD symptoms. I had stopped playing guitar at this point so I'm not sure whether it made the FD worse or not. However I do know that it takes a while for the effects of the drug to stabilise and it may be that you are experiencing a temporary effect during this phase. It modulates the uptake of seratonin and so in theory could cause more rapid firing of neurotransmitters, something that could make th FD worse since reasearch shows that impaired CNS inhibition is a factor. I personally couldn't tolerate the drug so I came off it after only 6 weeks but my depression was fairly mild. I would certainly go back to your doctor and voice your concerns. Finding a neuro who understands both FD and the possible links to SSRI drugs will be a challenge for sure!

In my case, being diagnosed with FD was a major factor in my short bout of depression but now after three years I have started to see major improvements. Please see my recent posts to find out how I managed to get on the road to recovery. Amazingly the approach has also subtly changed my mindset and I tend not to worry about the future as much as I used to which certainly helps with the anxiety.

I've probably not been much help but if you want to know more about any aspects of the above, please let me know. All the best. Jon
